Summer Days
This project was daunting. Intaglio printing involves etching a copper plate with ferric chloride acid! I was very concerned about this part but after getting started, it was a lot easier and more straight forward than I was expecting. Intaglio is a type of printmaking where you etch your design into a plate and all the ink remains in the grooves you create. You then wipe off the excess ink and use damp paper so that it only picks up the ink left in those etched grooves.
For this project, I took a different approach than other prints I’ve made. Through the ideation process used, I ended up with the prompt "Warm, Peaceful Summer Days Outside". My favorite in the summer activity is driving with my windows down while listening to music. I also really enjoy going to car shows with my step-dad. So I drew from that along with my love of plants and ended up with this design! I also leveraged aquatinting to create value in the prints which added more depth.
