Tolkien Google Doodle
For this project I had to design and animate a Google Doodle™ of a deceased person. I chose J.R.R. Tolkien as he has had such a large impact on the fantasy genre. For this project I combined printmaking with digital illustration in order to demonstrate texture and make things feel a bit more used and appreciated.
I think the printed-on texture of the background makes it feel like a night sky without it being so clean cut. The letters interacting with the foliage really makes it more realistic and “alive” for me, particularly with the colors and digitally rendered imagery shining through the gaps where the ink didn’t print. I think the most successful part of this project is the portrait of Tolkien along with the animation of the Hobbit hole door opening and closing.
